Field Trips
Field trips are usually on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, and we use Ann Arbor Public School buses for all our transportation needs.
Local trips occur during small group time; half of camp goes one day, the other half goes the next. Camp is divided in half for local field trips so we are able to take smaller groups at one time; approximately 20-25 children go on each trip. This allows children more opportunity to fully participate and be more actively involved.
All day field trips are camp wide including all children and staff. Examples of all day trips are Rolling Hills water park, Toledo Zoo, Kensington Metropark. On days there is an all day trip, the bus usually returns to camp around 4:00. Groups take one trip or have a special presentation or guest every week. (See the most recent field trip calendar.)
All field trips directly coincide with each week’s theme. Every effort is made to complete field trips on schedule. Each week your child’s name will be highlighted on the attendance sheet to tell you what day he/she is scheduled to go.
What to bring
Your child should dress in clothing appropriate for the weather and the activities in which he/she will be participating that day.
- A sweatshirt or a light jacket would be good to leave in your child's backpack in case of sudden weather changes.
- Children must wear shoes and socks during the day. The shoes should be suitable for running and hiking. Sandals just aren't safe for playing kick ball, or for hiking through a marshy swamp!
- A hat, sun screen, and light shirt are suggested as protection from sunburn.
